My new gear,ZWO CAA arrives just in time for Galaxy Season
Share
Just finished attaching my new bit of equipment to my scope chain, a ZWO camera angle adjuster (CAA). Basically it keeps the target in the same position as I framed it to start with, when the mount completes a meridian flip the target gets framed again back to the original position, plus I can control everything now from the comfort of my computer and on cold nights that's a big bonus!
Anyway back to work..... Galaxy season is here along with the best weather in years for stargazing. Last year I managed to photograph the Triangulum Galaxy so I'll be having a go at some new targets this year. Though my small 81mm telescope can't get up close and personal with galaxies like the big reflectors, Newts and Dobs as they have much larger apertures, I'm still excited about capturing images of, for me anyway tiny galaxies especially as my new CAA has just arrived. One galaxy has captured my imagination and that's NGC4395, a barred lenticular galaxy interacting with its neighbour NGC4438. It's 14 million light years away, and very low light requiring long exposure times with Broad Band filters. While I can't capture the supermassive black hole at its centre I'm sure NASA's JWST or Hubble telescopes can.
Watch this space! I’ll be updating y’all on my progress over the next few days.
